Well. Here we are. Late to the party, as usual. No doubt Blogging will be passe' by the time this gets posted. I've been wanting to start a blog for years, but I was involved in Web Development and Strategy for a living for so long that I simply didn't want to do anything web-related for fun.
But now that I'm out of that business, I can maybe give this a shot!
There's an introduction to me and this blog around here someplace, if you'd like to take a look.
Tonight's Tuesday, which means Choir Practice. I am Music Director at this church. The denomination is Metropolitan Community Churches, which is a Progressive, Inclusive, Christian organization founded by LGBT people.
This isn't going to be a religious blog, but my church work is a big part of my life, so it's going to come up.
The members of the church come from a variety of religious traditions, usually because they were kicked out or didn't feel comfortable there as LGBT people. So we've got Catholics, Protestants, Jews, a Zoroastrian, some Buddhists, Evangelicals of every sort, and more.
So being the Music Director there is a blast, because we draw music from everywhere. It's completely eclectic. We do broadway musicals, antiphonic music, traditional hymns, contemporary Praise & Worship music, African-American spirituals, Taize' music, African chants, and original music written and composed by yours truly.
This summer, we're doing a Musical Heritage Series, where choir members bring different songs from their own pasts and musical traditions and we learn them and perform them.
Here's what we're working on tonight:
O Magnum Mysterium
Praise to the Lord, the Almighty (We'll do this one in German)
Hold On, Help is on the Way
I love my job. That's all for now. More soon!
