This week, Hootenanny presents a sharp piece of satire about the strangeness of legislating against people’s sexuality in the first place.
Here’s what New York songstress Addie Brownlee has to say about this exclusive track, “We’re Not Really Gay”.
As a woman whose right to choose is being assaulted from every direction, including some unexpected ones — I can really relate to what must be an incredulousness on the part of the LGBTQ community at being told who or how to be. So I wrote this to be sung by an all gay children’s choir. In the words of Honey Boo Boo, “Ain’t nothing wrong with bein’ a little gay. Everybody’s a little gay.” Thanks for listening.
Addie was born in Kansas, but her restless nature and her music carried her first to Chicago, and now to the Big Apple. Much of her music is inspired by what she calls “the itinerant nowhereness of travel”, particularly Sea Legs, the lead track of her most recent recording, East Of Leaving.
Remember, always keep listening! (by John Voorhees)
