Mark Etheredge - Change Coming

November 19, 2012

In 2011, San Francisco’s Mark Etheredge left a 21 year career in software to try and make a living with a different kind of keyboard. A lifelong musician with a love of jazz and new age, he released his first CD, Change Coming, in September.

The title of the CD (and, of course, the title track) refers to Mark finally embracing his inner calling and leaving his comfort zone.

“I looked at my excuses not to leave—job security and the fallacy that I couldn’t afford to leave,” says Etheredge. “I realized that this limited thinking was holding me back. I had to let go and embrace a shift. [Change Coming is] the theme song for my career change.”

The song can also serve as the background for a shifting political reality, as amply discussed elsewhere on Owldolatrous. There is, in fact, a change coming in America, and it has taken many people by surprise.

Etheredge’s playing style is smooth and sophisticated, reminiscent of Steely Dan and Boz Scaggs. The new CD can be purchased at CDBaby. (by John Voorhees)
